Effect of chemosterilants on immature stages of red cotton bug Dysdercus cingulatus F

When nymphs of Dysdercus cingulatus (F.) in the fourth and fifth instars were treated topically with tepa or metepa at dosages of 2-10 mu g, there was a high degree of toxicity and those examples that did emerge as adults were deformed. In the deformed adult males, the testes were normally developed in size but the associated structures were degenerate; in females, the associated structures were normal but there was damage to the ovarian tubes. It is concluded that the treatment of immature stages of D. cingulatus with the chemosterilants tested is not useful.
