The effect of therapy with hydroxyzine in controlling the behavior of 76 pedodontic patients has been studied. The study was carried out on an objective basis with the appropriate use of controls. Fifty mg. of hydroxyzine, or a similar placebo, were administered one hour prior to the scheduled appointment. Hydroxyzine was found to reduce significantly the behavioral difficulties exhibited by these pedodontic patients. The investigator became convinced, from the data obtained, that hydroxyzine represented a safe and effective medication for use in the control and training of apprehensive and fearful children in a dental practice.
