Shoes infected with Trichophyton mentagrophytes, T. rubrum and Candida albicans were treated with 10% formalin, afungin spray (containing 3% dibenzthion) or 0.5% peracetic acid. Following a single spraying of the inner surfaces with 0.5% peracetic acid the fungi could no longer be isolated. Peracetic acid was thus as effective as 10% formalin.
