Among 30 patients with tinea pedis, 27 had Trichophyton rubrum infection, 2 had T. mentagrophytes and 1 had Epidermophyton floccosum. Clinical assessment after 14 days gave improvement in 19 of 20 patients treated with miconazole, in 8 of 20 in the placebo group and all 20 in the tolnaftate group (each foot was treated individually, giving 60 test sites). At a 6-week follow-up, 95% of those treated with miconazole, 10% of the placebo group and 65% of the tolnaftate group were free of infection.
