Tuberculous duodeno-colic fistula

Tuberculous duodeno-colic fistula is a rare condition even in this developing country. The patient was quite problematic both in diagnosis and treatment. Oral antituberculous drugs might not work in the patient with malnutrition due to lateral duodenal fistula. Presented herein is the recognition and successful combined surgical and medical treatment of what appears to be the first patient with duodeno-transverse colic fistula following tuberculous colitis. Once diagnosed by barium enema, nutritional care and prompt surgical intervention is mandatory before definite antituberculous treatment. Complete food stream bypass under properly prepared conditions would appear to have restored the nutritional status and, hence, the health of this patient. Then, antituberculous regimen was possible.
