R. officinalis leaves, used to decrease blood glucose levels and in antiseptic, diuretic, antidepressant and antispasmodic therapy, were collected in Turkey in 1995. An infusion, prepared using dried leaves, was given to normoglycaemic and hyperglycaemic mice. The glucose levels were significantly lower in infusion-receiving normoglycaemic and alloxan-induced hyperglycaemic mice than in the control group. No toxic effects of the infusion were observed.
