The immunodiagnosis of human neurocysticercosis in 67 serum samples and 54 samples of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from confirmed cases in hospitals in the Metropolitan Area of Santiago, Chile, was investigated. IgG-ELISA had sensitivities of 97 and 100% for serum samples (65 of 67 positive) and CSF samples(54 of 54 positive), respectively. This test was significantly superior (P<0.05) to the complement fixation test, which was positive in 55 (82.1%) of 67 serum samples and 45 (83.3%) of 54 CSF samples. The indirect haemagglutination test was positive in 60 (89.5%) of the 67 serum samples and 46 (85.2%) of the 54 CSF samples.
