The approximate lethal dose of a haemorrhagic septicaemia strain of Pasteurella multocida of bison origin was determined for young calves. Sulfamethazine (sulphadimidine) was administered to eight calves by continuous intravenous infusion. These calves and eight control calves were then infected. All but one of the treated calves survived and all but one of the untreated calves succumbed to pasteurella infection. It was concluded that a concentration of approximately 2 mg of sulfamethazine per 100 ml of plasma was sufficient to control P. multocida infection in calves.
