A new technique of vaginal ligation for sterilization is described which can be performed under local anesthesia and requires minimal hospital stay. The procedure is based on the principles of culdoscopic ligation but does not use the culdoscope itself. The method has been used on 62 patients with no postoperative complications. The procedure is safe, requires only 5-8 minutes operating time, and the patient can be released from the hospital on the same day. Careful handling of the tissues and proper patient selection insuring a freely mobile uterus are important factors in the operation's success.
