Three isorhamnetin flavonoid glycosides, CAl 1-3, were isolated from the flowers of C. officinalis and investigated for their inhibitory effect on lipoxygenase from rat lung cytosol. All compounds were enzyme inhibitors, with Cal 1 (1 sugar unit) showing the strongest activity, and Cal 3 (3 sugar components) showing the lowest activity. The inhibitory effect of Cal 2 on lipoxygenase was very similar to that of the reference compound, rutin . It is suggested that isorhamnetin flavonoid glycosides are active antiinflammatory principles of C. officinalis.
