In rats with transplantable hepatoma the serum contained less albumin and more alpha-globulin than usual. Synthesis of serum proteins was similar in tumour-bearing and healthy rats, but there was a lower rate of breakdown of alpha-globulin in the former. Hepatoma tissue was much less able to synthesize albumin than normal liver, and little of the albumin synthesized in hepatomas was released into the blood stream.
