The measurement of urea in bulk milk or in individual milk samples as an aid to nutritional management on dairy farms is discussed. Interpretation of results and the factors which may affect the levels are presented, as well as an outline of the changes in diet which could be used to correct abnormal levels. The difficulties in finding the correct solutions and the importance of full background information, including metabolic profile blood samples, is stressed.
