An account is given of studies on the chromosomes of natural populations of Anopheles maculipennis messeae Flni. in the central section of the Ob River in the Tomsk region of the Soviet Union. It was found that chromosomal polymorphism is more extensive in A. m. messeae than in other Palaearctic species and that the polytene chromosomes share many structural features with both Palaearctic and Nearctic species. A map of the salivary gland chromosomes is reproduced.
