Having defined communication as "the process of sharing ideas, feelings or attitudes", the various components of the communication process are identified and discussed. These are: (1) receiver: the field worker should know his audience; (2) message: implications to the farmer; (3) channel: words may not be the most effective way of transmitting the message; (4) feedback: effect on the receiver, and correcting subsequent messages until the communication objective is achieved; (5) sender: those engaged in rural extension and communication need adequate training, and to share ideas with rather than transmit ideas to, the farmers.
