Glucocorticoids proved to play a significant regulatory role in maintaining the optimum level of high density lipoprotein binding and internalization by hepatocytes. Their stimulating effects on the expression of the HDL "receptor" proved independent from the dynamics of cholesterol level in parenchymal cells.
