Ethyl-methanesulphonate treatment of grains with the genotype Sh1Wx, Sh1Wx resulted in 16sh1 mutants which can be divided into three classes. Class I consists of two mutants, sh1F and sh1s, which are immunochemically CRM+ since they specify a protein product which cross reacts with the Sh1 protein. The sh1F mutant forms a protein which migrates faster and sh1S forms a protein which migrates slower than the Sh1 protein. Class II consists of four mutants, sh1A, sh1B, sh1C and sh1D which specify proteins which cross react with and show the same electro-phoretic mobility as the Sh1 protein.
