A liquid formulation of Bacillus thuringiensis H-14 was sprayed by aircraft in early spring onto woodland pools in Saginaw County, Michigan, USA, at 1.17 l concentrate/ha (4.68 l spray/ha). Spray droplets collected on cards had a volume medium diameter of 208 micro m. Dipper sampling of Aedes larvae (mainly A. stimulans, A. intrudens, A. provocans and A. canadensis) in 33 treated and 6 check pools at 5-7 days before and 5-7 days after treatment indicated a mean reduction in larval densities of 88.5%, although the reductions were 80% or less in 8 of the pools. J.E. Hudson Liquid B. thuringiensis H-14 [B. thuringiensis subsp. israelensis] (Acrobe) was applied from fixed-wing aircraft at a rate of 4.68 litres of water-insecticide mixture (1.17 litre concentrate) per ha to woodland pools in Michigan, USA. A post-treatment larval survey indicated an 88.5% reduction in Aedes species larvae (A. stimulans, A. intrudens, A. provocans, A. canadensis). A volume median diameter of 208 micro m was determined.
