In October 1992, Pasteurella multocida serotype 6:B was isolated from a severe outbreak of haemorrhagic septicaemia in zebus in northern Cameroon. The mice-protection test demonstrated that there was no cross-protection between this strain and the strain of serotype 6:E which is used as an inactivated vaccine in Cameroon. Since uncontrolled animal movements occur between the Central African and West African countries it is recommended that these countries use a bivalent vaccine including both serotypes.
