One group of male weanling rats had bilateral symmetrical lesions in the ventromedial hypothalamic nuclei produced by a direct, anodal current. In a second group lesions were produced with a cathodal current and in a third group the electrode was inserted without current flow. Bodyweight, length, tail length, naso-anal length, pituitary weight and food intake were estimated. Both anodal and cathodal lesions result in the same degree of growth reduction and decrease in pituitary weight.
