The Fitzgerald-Hallpike caloric test and the monothermal Torok test were done in 58 patients with damage to the cerebellar hemispheres. In the Fitzgerald-Hallpike test symmetric vestibular reactions were obtained in 79.3% of cases. In the monothermal test vestibular decruitment of only type I and II according to Torok was demonstrated in 68.9% of all cases. This suggests that Torok test may be of great value in the diagnosis of damage to the cerebellar hemispheres. In the light of these results the author concludes that cerebellar hemispheres are responsible for stabilization of vestibulo-ocular reflexes and regulate the adequacy of the vestibulo-ocular responses in relation to the stimulus.
