The authors present the case of a patient with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia complicated by pure red cell aplasia. Successful treatment with ciclosporine was facilitated by assay of serum transferrin receptor, which demonstrated a prompt and sustained response of marrow erythropoiesis to this therapy.
