The effectiveness and safety of a new 15 mg formulation of clotiazepam, forerunner of a new class of benzodiazepines in anxiety secondary to psychotic disorders has been studied. Twenty patients (11 F and 9 M) mean age 45.3 yrs., suffering from various psychiatric pathologies were treated. Clotiazepam was given in two daily administrations for 21 days in doses varying between 30 and 60 mg. The patients were assessed on the Hamilton scale for anxiety. Scores fell by 15.5 % on the third day, to the point of achieving a diminution of 73.6 % on the 21st day (p<0.001). Side-effects reported by 5 patients were slight and regressed spontaneously. Clotiazepam thus confirms in the psychotic field its qualities as a good ansiolytic that is well tolerated and has few side-effects.
