Cloperastine fendizoate in the treatment of cough-producing diseases in pediatrics

A controlled double blind study against a placebo was conducted on 50 children (mean age 6.5 years) with coughing attributable to acute inflammation. Cloperastine fendizoate was administered in tablet form for 7 days in doses of 17.6-52.8 mg a day depending on the patient's age and/or weight. The tablets were given three times a day with a double dose in the evening and the placebo was administered ìn the same way. The remission of the coughing was early and significant and cloperastine was also effectìve in reducing the intensity of coughing while improving the pathological auscultatory situation and facilitating expectoration. The efficacy of cloperastine fendizoate is a particularly valuable discovery since there are few controlled double blind clinical studìes in the paediatric literature showing any really effective cough sedatives.
