Immediate cell membrane damage produced by Entamoeba histolytica subcellular extracts

alpha [14C]amino isobutyric acid is a syntheic amino acid of low molecular weight, not incorporated to protein. Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells were labeled with this radioactive compound and incubated with the Entamoeba histolytica subcellular fraction P30 for short periods (30 seconds to 8 minutes). Membrane damage in CHO cells was detected by specific radiolabeled release from the first 30 seconds of interaction between cell cultures and the amoebic fraction.
