'Leg weakness' includes a variety of defects in shape, posture and function of fore and hind limbs. A variety of defects have been listed, and also radiographic observations made on the skeleton. The author considered that rarefaction seen in the distal ulnar metaphysis was a secondary change induced by the stress of excessive weight bearing. Leg weakness was most common in herds maintained at a high plane of nutrition, where early maturity meant that bone growth failed to keep pace with rapid body growth; early trials showed an improved performance on a reduced food intake.
