In Assam State the Indian court held that the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Divorce) Act (1986) would not be given retrospective application. Thus it held that Muslim women who had been granted maintenance under sections 125 and 127 of the Criminal Procedure Code before the date that the 1986 Act came into force would not be governed by its provisions.
