Fourteen sheep and 10 goats from Iran, clinically diagnosed as having Babesia ovis infection, were treated im with imidocarb dihydrochloride at 1 mg/100 kg. This was equivalent to 1.2 mg active ingredient/kg bwt. A second similar dose was given in 3 cases (2 sheep, one goat) which showed clinical recrudescence following treatment. Six untreated animals (3 sheep, 3 goats) developed typical severe babesiosis, while all 24 treated animals were cured. Pyrexia, haemoglobinuria and anorexia were rectified in 24-48 h, and parasitaemia was eliminated within 48 h.
