Young hamsters of both sexes were fed for 11 weeks on 12 semipurified diets with maize starch or sucrose as carbohydrate source or half of each, with no folic acid or 2 mg/kg diet and without sulphonamide or with 1%. Urine was collected for 24 h weekly from the second week. The folacin-deficient diet did not affect weight gain unless sulphonamide was added and the final weights were significantly low.
