The ultrastructure and histochemistry of the oncosphere of Hymenolepis nana are described. The outer envelope is shown to differ from other species in that a lamina is absent. The main structural components of the outer envelope appear to be a neutral mucopolysaccharide and glycoprotein. The main structural component of the inner envelope appears to be a glycoprotein. The penetration gland of H. nana differs from other species in the size and shape of the granular inclusions within the gland. The article is illustrated with a number of electron photomicrographs.
