After a brief presentation of electroconvulsive therapy in the treatment of endogenous psychoses, the authors describe the management for general anaesthesia. Over five years 56 patients were treated with 355 elektroconvulsive shocks. Based an this experience, it is stressed that the risk of this therapy can be reduced by exaet indication by the psychiatrist, by eliminating the danger of the development of thromboses using antithrombotics prophylactically in psyehotic patients especially in those with stupor before electro-shock therapy, by a careful anaesthesiological regime and unilateral EEG electrode placing during the therapy.
