The present study was conducted in a village of Ludhiana district of Punjab to find out the association of socio-economic characteristics with fertility variations among the rural women. The findings indicated that the number of children born per couple was significantly associated with caste, age, education, married life span and age at marriage of the respondents. Family occupation, family income and employment of the respondents were not significantly associated with the number of children born. Spacing between the children was significantly associated with caste, married life span and age at marriage of the respondents, whereas age, family occupation, education, family income and employment of the respondents were not significantly associated.
