Treatment of myobiosis in laboratory mice with trichlorphon

In tests of insecticides against Myobia musculi (Schr.) on laboratory mice, a single treatment with 1% trichlorphon sprayed on to the animals as an aqueous solution was found to destroy all adult mites but had less effect on the nymphs and larvae, and no effect was observed on the eggs. A second treatment 8 or 12 days later resulted in complete eradication of the mites. In a similar test, 0.1% trichlorphon was shown to be ineffective as a spray. In a second test, 0.1% trichlorphon was administered in the drinking water on four alternate days, with untreated water on the days in between; again, the eggs were unaffected by this treatment and the nymphs and larvae only slightly affected. A second treatment carried out 1 week after the first resulted in complete mortality of the mites.
