Of 383 mice which developed severe progressive necrotic dermatitis affecting either the lumbar area, the hips and shoulders, or both, 134 (35%) died. A streptococcus (Lancefield group G) was isolated from the skin lesions, throats, spleens and occasionally from other sites of affected animals. The skin lesions were reproduced in 6 of 15 mice inoculated with the isolated streptococcus.
