Quinidine--an alternative to quinine for malaria

It is suggested that quinidine may be used to treat chloroquine-resistant malaria, when quinine is unavailable. With reference to previous research, the drug is considered to be at least as efficacious as quinine and no more toxic. However, it is emphasized that a physician should not delay in obtaining quinine or transferring the patient to an appropriate treatment centre as soon as possible.
