Cerebrospinal angiopathy associated with visual disorders in pigs

Blindness in a litter of store pigs was associated with severe histological lesions in the vessels of the c.n.s., consisting of fibrinoid degeneration of the intima and media of small and medium-sized arteries and subsequent regressive changes (oedema and encephalomalacia, partly with cavitation and cerebrocortical necrosis). In addition, there was vascular and perivascular infiltration. The aetiology, and relationship to cerebrospinal angiopathy, necrotizing arteritis and periarteritis nodosa are discussed.
