Congenital tremor type A 3 in pigs: an hereditary sex-linked cerebrospinal hypomyelinogenesis

Two Landrace sows gave birth to a total of 143 piglets of which 36 were affected with congenital tremor. The disease was characterized clinically by severe, coarse tremor of the head and forequarters and undulation of the hindquarters from side to side. The principal pathological features were cerebrospinal hypomyelinogenesis with a deficiency of oligodendrocytes, but a normal cerebellum brain weight ratio. The condition affected males only and was caused by a sex-linked recessive gene.
