The pelotherapy of patients with chronic obstructive bronchitis at a central highlands health resort

Patients with chronic obstructive bronchitis treated in conditions of highlands (1610 m above the sea level) received 3 kinds of therapy: peloid applications (1), peloids plus sinusoidal modulated current (2), climate therapy alone (3). Under treatment 1, peloids contributed to the effect of mountain climate only in mild ventilation disorders (degree I). In more affected ventilation (degree II) peloids provoked hyperventilation and O2 excess absorption in unchanged bronchial obstruction and partial oxygen pressure. Ventilation defects of the III degree are aggravated by growing arterial hypoxemia and adverse cardiovascular effects. Treatment 2 is effective in highlands climate in patients with both degree I and II ventilation abnormality.
