Central diabetes insipidus was diagnosed in two 4.5 month-old puppies of a litter of 9 Afghan hounds. Both were lacking adequate plasma arginine vasopressin concentration, compared with normal dogs. Microscopic abnormalities were confined to the brain and pituitary gland in one puppy. It was not known if the cause was familial.
