The mycelial phase of E. crescens may be successfully cultivated at pH 4-14 (25 deg C) or 5-14 (4 deg C). The optimal pH is 7-8. Aleuriospores were observed after 7 days at pH 6-12 (25 deg C) and after 35 days at 4 deg . E. crescens is described as an alkali-tolerant rather than an acid-tolerant organism.
