A brief commentary stresses the importance of providing more thought to the selection of methods for gathering information for rural development and nutrition projects. A specific model for conducting a "rapid rural appraisal" is advanced and elaborated. The model is based on a group of methods, an outline for which is provided and described. Application and limitations of the model are discussed.(wz)
