The effect of thymus factor X (TFX Polfa) on Trichinella spiralis muscle invasion in mice. Parasitological and histological study

An attempt was made to determine the effect of Thymus Factor X (TFX Polfa) in the early and late stages of mouse muscle invasion by T. spiralis. The experiments were carried out with 56 three-mo.-old BALB/C mice weighing 8.5-14 g. The animals were infected per os by feeding on the carcasses of rats infected 6 mo. earlier. The mice were given 2 different doses: 28 animals were infected with a low, nonfatal dose of 100 larvae per animal, and 28 were given high doses (700 larvae per animal). The effect of TFX on T. spiralis larvae in mouse muscle tissue was evaluated on days 65, 91 and 94 post invasion. Femoral muscle and diaphragm were examined by trichinoscopy, and samples of muscle and tissue were subjected to histological examination. These preliminary studies demonstrated that the immunomodulating preparation TFX Polfa helps to destroy T. spiralis larvae in the muscle tissue of mice, promote cellular inflammatory reaction, and improve the animals' general condition.
