The presence of Campylobacter pylori and its pathogenicity were studied in the duodenal and gastric mucosa of gastric and duodenal ulcer and chronic gastritis and reduced secretion patients as a function of the clinical course of the disease, state of gastric secretion and the type of therapy. C. pylori may not play the role of the main pathogenetic factor in ulcer formation; presumably, they occupy the previously injured mucosa under the effect of reduced local defense mechanism.
