The diagnose is from the endoscopic finding only is difficult because of variation of the ulcer shape and absence of characteristic figures. In addition, typical macroscopic findings, described in previous literature are rarely observed. A typical tuberculous nodule in biopsy specimens could not be seen in this series. Therefore, continuous sectioning of biopsy specimens is necessary for detailed examination. The culture of the emulsion obtained after taking biopsy from the margin of the ulcer is most reliable method but because 4 to 8 weeks are needed to get results this method is not always suitable.
