Value of indirect immunofluorescence test in the diagnosis and prognosis of intestinal and extra-intestinal amoebiasis in endemic areas

Tests were made by indirect immunofluorescence on sera from 3 patients with intestinal amoebiasis, 64 with hepatic amoebiasis and 31 with pleuro-pulmonary infection in the Ivory Coast, and also from 85 other non-amoebic patients in the Ivory Coast and Upper Volta. The reactions were positive more frequently and more strongly in the patients with extra-intestinal infections (73% positive at 1:640) than in those with intestinal ones (33% positive at 1:640). In the controls, 8.2% were positive at 1:640.
