Tuberculosis of gastroin-intestinal tract: with special reference to rectal tuberculosis

The present study was conducted on surgical biopsy material collected in a period of 4 years. A total of 66 cases of abdominal tuberculosis has been studied to work out the regional incidence and the variation in histological lesions in the wall of gut. Four cases of intestinal tuberculosis-3 involving the rectum and one transverse colon have been reported. The importance of tubercular lesion in mesenteric lymphnodes and non-specific inflammatory change in bowel wall due to allergic reaction has been discussed and correlated. The importance of biopsy examination in cases of rectal tuberculosis has been stressed as these cases simulate carcinoma clinically.
