Though the incidence of cholecystitis has been on the increase (Kettler, 1958) the incidence of tuberculosis of gall bladder is still very low. Due to its rarity, a case of tuberculosis of gall bladder is reported. In the present case added to the literature the interesting features are: The absence of tubercles in the mucosa thus excluding the possibility of canalicular infection and presence of tubercles on serous coat only but without involvement of peritoneal cavity thus excluding the possibility of dissemination via peritoneal cavity. Presence of hyperplasia and marked fibrosis of muscle coat but without any tubercles. Absence of any obstruction to cystic or common bile duct. Acalculous nature of gall bladder suggest that tuberculosis of the present case was secondary to non-specific infection of gall bladder which probably had lowered the resistance of gall bladder and involvement of serous coat by tubercles being either haematogenous or lymphogenic from some distant focus which could not be traced out.
