In conclusion, our study demonstrates the presence of maltose and isomaltose in the circulation of uremic patients that is not found in normal healthy subjects. The levels .of these disaccharides are predominantly influenced by the residual renal function, mode and duration of dialysis therapy, but not by dietary carbohydrate. The origin and significance of circulating maltose and isomaltose in uremic patients remain uncertain and require further study.
