J. R. Thurn comments on a paper by O. H. Del Brutto, E. Garcia, O. Talamas et. al. (Archives of Internal Medicine (1888) 148 544-546) which concludes that inflammation caused by neurocysticercosis is more severe in women than in men. He suggests that their data may be inaccurate due to the sexes getting different treatment, having different age distributions, or due to the patients receiving medication other than anthelmintics (e.g. steroids). In reply O. H. Del Brutto and J. Sotelo state that there was no significant difference in the mean ages of women and men in the study, that the sexes were treated in exactly the same way, and that none of the patients were receiving other medication.
