A review, largely based on the author's work on farm livestock, laboratory mammals and man, in which it is shown that, whereas LH secretion by the pituitary is controlled solely by LHRH, the secretion of FSH by the pituitary is stimulated by LHRH, FSHRH and activin and is inhibited by inhibin.
