Predation of Microvelia pulchella (Hemiptera: Veliidae) on mosquito larvae

Observations indicated that M. pulchella was able to prey on larvae of Culex quinquefasciatus, and that the veliid could survive and reproduce using mosquito larvae as the only source of food. However, the authors consider it unlikely that M. pulchella is a major predator of mosquitoes. The veliid appeared to have difficulty handling large larvae.
